As a cinematographer & video editor, I’m often asked “how do you know when you have the right shot?”
Sure, there are plenty of technical reasons that could be thrown around…framing, exposure, shutter speed… the list goes on.
And sure, sometimes you have to work though it and manipulate things in order to get what you need.
But sometimes, you just have to pause…
For me, so much of being behind the lens is about letting it happen and allowing it to come to you… don’t force it. If you can just slow down, take a second to pause and actually absorb what’s happening around you… “the right shot” is probably already there waiting for you… and often times when you least expect it.
That happened this morning. I’m drinking my coffee and taking a few minutes before diving into a busy and hectic day. I happen to look over toward the orchid we have on our mantle… the low morning sun pouring in through the windows… and what resulted…. “The Right Shot”.
